Born in Sudbury, Ontario
Home of the Big Nickel

Hi I am Denise Willard.
I was born In Sudbury, Ontario and Raised in a small town called Stinson just outside of Sudbury in the country side. My family on my dad's side and mom's side also lived there, Grandparents, cousins, Aunts and Uncles. We had great times, my father was a good supporter. My father owned his own business as a Paving and Dirt Hauling company. It was called RC Paving and Trucking. My brother worked with him a lot when we were home from school. My mother loved picking Blueberries and she collected bottles on the side of the road in the Spring. We all went trudging in the bushes, climbing hills and picking those berries, with lunch on hand usually cucumber and tomato sandwiches. I was a whiner, poor mom, I got hungry early and winded up eating most of my blueberries. I was glad when i was old enough to sell Blueberries at the road. It was fun, I wore my shorts and home made halter top and got the truck drivers to honk when they went by. At first I sold blueberries with my aunt Rosie, we had fun, we listened to music and talked about a lot of stuff.
I loved hanging out by myself and making mud pies and big leaf cabbage rolls. One time my twin cousins Davie and Dougy ate my dirt pies and they said it was good. I wonder if their butts hurt after that. I felt bad but my aunt told me to let them, when I told her what they were doing. Their Grandparents Mr and Mrs Fowler owned the Gas station about a mile down the road, we would buy penny candy in their store, we got so much candy, and we would buy a pop for five cents, and a bag of chips for ten cents. I loved pretending I was Grazilda the witch from House of Frightenstein. I would collect old shoes and boots to throw into my pot, and anything else I could find. I also hung around with a neighbor everyday, she was about my age, her name was Debbie, we made lots of cabins because my brother and is friend Joanne would bust them, then we would bust theirs and it continued like that all summer long. We played at Frank Gratton's sometimes, he had a cool old cabin that had a loft and he had cars to play in, it was a scrap yard.
I won 1000 Double Bubble bubble gums from a magazine contest. It was awesome. I also was aloud to go to the Bingo with my mom and play. I won $1000.00 once. My mom gave me $100.00, and man did that buy me a ton of candy for a long time and some clothes. Another time I won a Bride's Maid Doll that my aunt who was one year older than me kept at her house for a long time. The night I finally got my doll, my neighbors came over and i wanted to take my doll off the TV cause i was afraid their daughter who was only 2 or 3 would get it and ruin it, my mom said don't worry she won't touch it. But of course she did and we couldn't fix it., that really sucked and I was so upset. My sister eventually used it as a doll and dressed it in different cloths.
But life was great as long as I stayed outside to play, living in the country kept us so busy, we always had something to do. in the winter we went skating on the pond in our neighbor's yard, and skidooing (snowmobiling), and sliding on Frank Gratton's sand pits and hills.
We had a rough life, when my father drank and got violent with my mom. I would try to protect her and was beaten also.
My mom tried to leave several times with us, but my father found us.

Moving to Brantford, Ontario
Hometown of the Homestead of Alexander Graham Bell, and Walter and Wayne Gretzky

We moved to Brantford when I was 11 going on 12. I was pretty shy, but I met new friends right away.  We moved to  a Horse farm with our neighbors that lived next door to us in Stinson. We were there for a month then my father found us. My mother and father decided to try and get back together again. We moved to Cathcart just outside of Burford. I went to Harley North field Public School.
We moved to Brantford a few months later and stayed there until I was 16 years old. I met many friends there and grew up as a teenager in this town.
Eventually my parents broke up again and we moved to our own apartment  in Brantford then moved to Hamilton Ontario.
Six months later we moved to Stinson my hometown in my uncle and aunts house on top of the hill.
I later moved to Garson and lived with my dad for a few months, while going to school at Garson Secondary School. I got my own apartment and found a babysitting job for a Greyhound Bus Driver babysitting 3 12 year olds and a 13 year old. It was interesting I taught them about stuff, cooked all their meals and became a model for them. I even bought a book at the drugstore on how to talk to your teenager about sex.  We had a group meeting to go through the book. Their mother asked to see the book. She said she was glad that i would talk to the kids about this subject because it was never discussed when she was growing up.  I eventually moved to Brantford every summer for work.
I was pregnant at eighteen years old and finished that year at high school.
Moved to Vernier Ontario and went to school in Sturgeon Falls until my first son was born. My mother refused to babysit for me so i could graduate grade  12 because she was afraid i would  rely on her too much, but i was getting in the 90s for every business course i took. But i lived in the country and nobody could babysit for me, so I dropped out. That was sad  I could have graduated with honors that year. I stayed home, moved to Sudbury in Gatchell area and eventually went to the industrial training center for woman in Sudbury a new program through Cambrian College in Sudbury and had Shawn my first born in a daycare there. After i graduated I went on a couple of placements Moe's Handyman Service, and a rubber working company that made pinch valves and expansion joints working with toiline which is a very strong chemical that melts the rubber together.
I went back to high school when my son started Kindergarden and went to help his class on my spares because the school was right beside my high school Sudbury Secondary.
My  son and I eventually moved to Brantford again where i met my husband Randy whom I went out with when I was a teenager ten years before, we were 15 when we went out, but we couldn't see eye to eye on some things so we broke up.
I stayed at a shelter for a while, then found a room to rent, then an apartment.

I married my teenage sweetheart and we have 4 beautiful boys. Every one with a different personality, I am so proud of  our boys.
