KIDS IN TODAY'S SOCIETY - MY PERSPECTIVE
I feel that kids in today's society don't have enough outside time, which brings creative ideas, and working the imagination, parents are so busy with both parents in most families working to make ends meet. I feel time needs to be created to assure children have quality time with their parents on a regular basis,
My Children were fortunate enough to live in a small city Brantford, Ontario where our home was located near a big soccer park, with a playground, also there is a lot of field area where they could build a fort in the middle of a cornfield, and a field with dirt where they could ride their bikes and make hills to jump on. It was like living in the city with the country as our back yard, great for kids to grow and play together.
They played in the mud, collected Christmas trees one year in my backyard while my husband and i were at work, it took us a couple of years to get rid of those trees ha ha.
They had a lot of fun and got to be kids, they have an awesome imagination, and their father has an awesome personality which helped a lot. I taught them how and when to be serious about things. Making sure things got done, and making sure we had time to go on nature hikes on trails and by the river, to learn safety and the appreciation and respect for nature and animals and yes even bugs oooh, I held the bugs to teach them that they do not hurt. We taught the kids about some foods that grow in the wild. I would like to learn more about this and will be going on a nature excursion to learn about edible wild plants, it will be awesome to learn more.
I worked a lot of overtime, so the boys learned responsibility and respect me for this. They are also good workers. I worked three different kinds of jobs so I showed them that flexibility is good. I worked as a welder and machine operator for 8 years at company that makes playground equipment we were in the fortune 500 magazine as the number one company, and I was a huge part of that, I winded up being a foreman for my own department, indoor playgound equipment which i started from scratch with the drawings given to me so I could build jigs and parts for all jobs. Before that I worked for a Handy man service, fixing fences, roofs, electrical, and other interesting things as part of a coop for the Industrial training course I took before I moved to Brantford. I worked as a Customer Service Representative at a call center then became Collection Administrative Assistant to our manager where i received a certificate for most improved in the shortest period of time ever in the company, becoming one of the top collectors. Then I became Quality Assurance Manager at an electronic company for a one year contract and decided I did not want to extend the contract. I have been a forklift driver for about 6 years now and I love this job the best, time goes so fast because i am always busy and i love how my forklift turns around on a dime, It is awesome!!. I want to take a course next year for nutritionist and wellness. I have done a lot of things and have accumulated knowledge over the years. I always loved finding out and sharing about nutrition in foods. What kind of vitamin is in each food and what it does for your body, this is why I want to become a nutritionist. I have taught my boys you can do anything you want and be whoever you want to be in your life, that you are smart and good people.
My husband is a Heating and Air conditioning installer and now a Service Technician at a good company, he ran his own business before and has worked for other companies, his reputation got him a phone call from this company he works for now and they asked him to work for them full time. Two of my boys have just finished a course to get their gas fitters license and want to pursue a career like their dad and have their own business like their dad did before. Our youngest son wants to be a welder and machine operator, he is taking courses at school on these subjects, and wants to do a coop in this field.
I feel that our children have been taught true values in life.
Also I taught my boys that they should stay home until they get themselves set up to live outside of our home. My first son at 13 decided to rebel against discipline by running away from home, but now regrets it. Even so he is starting to do well in life because I never gave up on him, we have given him as much support as we can. He is planning a career for himself helping others with drug addictions as he is a recovering drug addict and has a huge heart. He is setting up a business for himself with help from a Billionaire who has always seen potential in my son. I speak with him often and we have a great connection, he texts my boys and my husband too because we all need to stay connected.
Our second oldest bought his own house with a friend and has been assuring all payments are being made, he lives in it and is starting to rent out rooms. He learned how to manage credit cards in school and has always used it and payed it right back within 30 days to build himself good credit, now my third son has been doing the same thing with credit cards and he and his fiance are living at our house with her boy, They are saving up a good down payment for a house, they have been pre approved, and they will be getting married next year.
My youngest son has one more year to finish highschool, had joined sports and works too. This has affected some of his marks and he plans to go back to highschool for one more year. He wants to be a welder and machine operator like I was. I loved my welding job too, it's just that it was so dirty. I explained this to him but he said he enjoys it and that is what he wants to do.
So as you see we as parents do have a direct effect on what our children will do with their lives. I am very proud of how my boys have turned out. Loving and nurturing is very important, showing support and respect for each one as an individual is very important.
